The short answer: a telecaller makes or answers phone calls for a business — to sell a product, follow up on leads, book appointments or solve customer questions. Freshers usually earn around ₹10,000 to ₹18,000 a month plus incentives, and most roles accept 12th pass candidates with clear speaking skills.
What does a telecaller do?
- Calls customers from a list of leads and explains a product or service
- Answers incoming calls and solves basic questions
- Books appointments, demos or site visits
- Follows up with interested customers
- Records each call's result in a CRM, Excel sheet or app
- Meets daily targets, such as a number of calls or confirmed sales
Inbound vs outbound telecalling
| Inbound | Outbound | |
|---|---|---|
| Who calls | Customers call you | You call customers |
| Main work | Answering questions, support | Sales, lead follow-up |
| Pressure | Moderate | Higher (targets) |
| Incentives | Less common | Common and can be large |
Telecaller salary
- Fresher: about ₹10,000–₹18,000 a month fixed.
- With incentives: good performers in sales calling often add ₹3,000–₹15,000 a month.
- After 1–2 years: senior telecaller or team leader roles pay more, often ₹20,000–₹30,000.
Salary figures in this article are approximate monthly ranges seen in job posts across Indian cities in 2026. Actual pay depends on the city, company and your hours — always check the job post.
Always ask how incentives are calculated and when they are paid. Get it in writing if possible.
Skills you need
- Clear speaking in the language the customers use (often Hindi and a regional language; English for some roles)
- Listening and patience, especially with upset customers
- Basic computer or smartphone use to record calls
- Typing speed for logging details
- Handling "no" without losing confidence
Common interview questions
- Why do you want a telecalling job? "I enjoy talking to people and I want to build my communication and sales skills."
- How will you handle an angry customer? "I will listen without interrupting, apologise for the trouble, and either fix it or tell them clearly what happens next."
- Sell me this pen. Ask a question first ("Do you write a lot at work?"), then link one feature to their need.
- Are you comfortable with targets? Say yes and give an example of working towards a goal.
- Which languages can you speak? List them honestly — extra languages are a big plus.
Some interviews include a short mock call. Speak slowly, smile while speaking — it changes your tone — and confirm details back to the customer.
Tips to grow in telecalling
- Keep a small notebook of answers to the questions customers ask most.
- Learn the product well; confident answers close more calls.
- Track your numbers every day — calls, connects, conversions.
- Ask your team leader for call feedback once a week.
