The short answer: a walk-in interview is an open hiring session where you go to the company's office or venue at the given date and time, without a prior appointment. Carry several copies of your resume, ID proof, education certificates and photos, reach early, and expect several rounds on the same day.
How walk-in interviews work
- The company posts the date, time window and address, often for many openings.
- Candidates register at the desk on arrival.
- Rounds may include a form, a written or typing test, an HR round and a manager round.
- Selected candidates sometimes receive an offer on the same day.
BPOs, retail chains, hospitals, banks' sales teams and delivery companies use walk-ins often.
Checklist: what to carry
- 3–5 printed copies of your resume
- Original and photocopy of Aadhaar card (and PAN, if you have it)
- Mark sheets and certificates — 10th, 12th, degree
- Experience letter and last salary slips, if you have worked before
- 4 passport-size photos
- A pen, a small file folder and a water bottle
- Your phone, charged, with mobile data
- Driving licence and RC, for delivery or driver roles
How to prepare
- Read the job details and note the role, skills and timings.
- Practise your introduction — see self introduction for freshers.
- Prepare for common questions using our interview questions guide.
- Plan your route and leave early — walk-in queues can be long.
- Dress neatly: clean formal or semi-formal clothes and clean shoes.
On the day
- Arrive at the start of the time window; late arrivals may be turned away.
- Be polite with everyone, including security and reception — they are sometimes asked for feedback.
- Keep your documents in order so you can hand them over quickly.
- Ask when you will hear back, and save the HR contact.
- Be ready to wait a few hours; carry a snack.
Watch out for fake walk-in drives
- No genuine company charges a fee to attend a walk-in interview.
- Be careful with drives at hotels or homes with no company name or website.
- Do not hand over original certificates to be "kept" by anyone.
- Never share OTPs or bank details at a walk-in.
