Registration fees, "security deposits" and OTP requests are the most common job scams in India. Here is how to spot them.

Thousands of people lose money every year to fake job offers. The good news: almost every scam follows the same few patterns.

Red flags

  • Any fee. Registration, training, uniform, ID card, "security deposit" — real employers never charge you.
  • Too good to be true. ₹50,000 a month for simple data entry from home, no interview.
  • Only WhatsApp or Telegram. No office address, no company website, no landline.
  • OTP or UPI PIN requests. Nobody needs your OTP to hire you.
  • Pressure. "Pay today or the seat is gone."

What to do

Stop contact, do not pay, and report the post with the "Report this job" link. If you already paid, call the cyber crime helpline 1930 or report at cybercrime.gov.in.
